Mythral is Stansborough’s first custom-spun yarn especially for the hand-knitting market. 100% Stansborough Grey wool, the yarn is 8 ply, or DK weight.
Stansborough Grey is a breed of sheep specifically developed by the Eldridges for the production of wool fabric. The wool has also proven suitable for use as hand-knitting yarn, and development into this area is now proceeding.
Grown, processed and spun entirely in New Zealand, the wool is not bleached and retains its natural blue grey colouring. In addition to the natural grey, the yarn is initially presented in four over dyed colours – red, pink, green and blue. The dyes are environmentally friendly and biodegradable. This does not impact the yarn’s colourfastness.
The fleece possesses a long staple and fine crimp, creating a yarn with a lot of drape and movement. The yarn is woollen spun and pilling is minimal. Mythral is suitable for felting, knitting and crochet. Its 3 ply construction makes it suitable for all types of projects, from hats and sweaters to blankets and felted bags.
For more information on the wool itself, see “Our Story” and special bags and pattern offer on Monthly special page for May only.
